Test results

Getting your test results

If investigations are arranged by the doctor, it is essential that you understand how to obtain your results. An enquiry to reception will tell you if the result is available and whether or not you need to speak to the doctor again. Results for tests requested by the surgery team are available by telephoning reception between 2pm and 4pm on any working day.  Hospital colleagues are responsible for providing results of any tests they have requested.  If you need to contact any NHS Lothian Hospital department, please contact the NHS Lothian Hospital Switchboard on 0131 537 1000.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to (if aged 16 and over) unless that person has given prior written permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

Specimens

Occasionally a doctor or nurse may ask you to bring a sample to the surgery for testing.

All samples must be brought to the reception before 3pm on any working day.  This is to ensure that the sample can be processed in time for the last lab van pickup.

Samples received after 3pm may miss the lab van collection and you may be required to re-submit your specimen.
